Who We Are
The Shan Health Committee was founded on August 12, 2019, by six Shan ethnic health organizations dedicated to providing primary healthcare in Shan State. As an ethnic health organization, its mission is toimplement accessible primary healthcare in collaboration with partner organizations, local healthworkforce and the public involvement. The committee also aims to contribute to the development of arobust federal health system. In Shan State, as in other states of Burma, various aspects such as education, health, and the economy face challenge under successive military regimes. The living conditions in Shan State where members of the Shan Health Committee operate, are notably low. This condition is evident inmore than 20 townships, especially in the north, south and east. The committee focuses its efforts on over30 clinics, serving a population of over 200,000, predominantly rural communities. The healthcareinitiatives prioritize hard-to-reach areas, aiming to benefit impoverished families. The committee emphasizes community participation, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or gender, as they strive toimprove public health within their operational scope.
